Among all the high-end manufacturers of studio gears, API is one of the most known and appreciated brand. Their compressor 2500 is a classic, and I was very curious to find out why this unit is so interesting for so many engineers around the world and what are its strengths.
The BAX EQ from Dangerous Music is a high shelf and low shelf eq with high pass and a low pass filters. The knobs are all stepped therefore, it fits perfectly for a mastering usage. Avalon Design, V5 Review, Pure Class A DI-RE-Microphone Preamplifier
I don’t know exactly why, but I always classified the Avalon as a middle-class brand. To be noticed, that I never really use their products in the past. Fortunately, I had recently the opportunity to test the V5 therefore, I decided to check it out and confirm or invalidate my early opinion. As a result, I was extremely surprised and I’m now sure that Avalon has a lot more to offer than I expected in the beginning thus, I changed my mind.
Antelope Audio became in a short time one of the leader and most famous manufacturer for clocking generators system for the audio industry. I was very happy when I learnt that they were developing converters as well. It was probably the most obvious and natural extension for their product line. Clocks and converters are intimately linked, and I was curious to find out if they were able to make such high quality converters as they did with their astonishing clock generators. The first Antelope Audio converters were the Zodiacs, which is a series of three wonderful DACs.
Book written by Bobby Owsinski (Second Edition)
Here is another book I had for years on my shelves, but never red it. Then, I decided that I really should take time for it. Now, the only thing that comes in my mind is: why I did not read it sooner? It would have brought me so much benefit and help for my early projects!
DVD Review (Documentary): The Bock Audio Menu, David Bock microphone recipes
I must say that I was completely unaware about this microphone brand, and my curiosity told me to have a look, so I bought this DVD and discover the amazing Bock Audio microphones’ universe.
For years, I found really too bad to not have the possibility to use Audio Unit plug-ins in Pro Tools, and I noticed there are some really great instruments and effects applications that are only available in this format or that do not properly work in Pro Tools. Last year, I was working on a movie trailer with Spocksone, and in the middle of the production process he was pretty disappointed by the fact that even with 12GB of RAM in his computer he could only use 4GB for the samplers in the Pro Tools Session (on Mac). Therefor he requested me to see whether we could find a way to use more than the 4GB limit. After some search, I found a solution, and thereby how to use Audio Unit plug-ins in Pro Tools.
The reading of the first edition of the Mastering Audio book was a great introduction to the mastering or me. Yet, as I was less experienced then, therefore did not take the whole benefice of what this book had to offer. When the second edition was released, I wondered if it worth the acquisition.
